The Liberec Region is located in the north of the Czech Republic on the border with Germany and Poland. It is an area with a rich history and a wealth of natural, cultural, and historic landmarks, an area that is rightly known as heaven on earth for tourists, skiers, lovers of nature, and history enthusiasts.
The region is home to the protected landscape areas of the Jizera and Lužice mountains and the Krkonoše Mountain National Park. Unique timber-framed structures have been preserved in many places in this mountainous landscape. Visitors here will find a whole host of interesting places, particularly ancient castles and romantic chateaux. Also unique is the network of stone and metal observation towers that are unmatched anywhere else in the country.
The Liberec Region is ideal for an active holiday. Those interested in swimming or water sports will find all they need at Mácha's Lake or in the Holany Ponds area. The area is also interwoven with a number of marked cycling paths. Meanwhile, the Jizera Mountains are home to one of the best known cross-country skiing tracks in the country, the Jizera Mountain Cross-Country Track. Many towns in the region also have a rich glassmaking tradition and visitors can see with their own eyes how world-renowned Bohemian glass is made.
