Wallenstein history
Our hotel carries the name of the Duke of Frýdlant - Albrecht of Wallenstein, who lived in our region in 1583 - 1634.
The region of Liberec and Frýdlant he received as a gift from the Emperor. During his reign this area flowerished and developed a lot. Not only for this he is known as the most remarable economist of his time. Very soon his efficient reign spread on to the large area of the Nord Bohemia. And that was very rear in that time. His country was a state inside of the state and in case of economy totally self-sufficient.
Wallenstein got famous mainly as a military commandant during the Thirty Years War, where he was in command of the Emperor's Army. During that time he protected all his manor from the war dissasters.
He took a deep care in case of architecture and contruction industry. Besides building monasteries and churches (the wallenstein Palace at the Prague Castle) he reconstructed local hospital and commanded to build up a new town quarter for textile workers in Liberec.
Under his command typical semidetached houses appeared and later on they were called the Wallenstein Houses.
We took our inspiration for building our hotel from them. The inside of the hotel is also designed in a way that it reminds the atmosphere of the Medieval times.
A very popular thing in our hotel is so called Wallenstein Feast. During such a feast we keep to the mediaval tradition and atmosphere. The menu copies the historical reports and represents the rich feasts the were held at the time of Wallenstein (pheasants, deer, ducks, pigeons and sucking-pigs are included in the offer).
It is all served on special historical-like ceramic dishes. During such a feast the old atmospere is supported by a performance of music and a dance is available, too.
We would like to inform you that a new hotel has been built in the North part of Bohemia - in Liberec. The name of it is Valdštejn and it is situated on the outskirt of the town. The town Liberec you can find between Jizera Mountains and Ješted in Region Nisa. It is only about 1 hour far from the border with Germany (Varnsdorf) and about 25 km from another border - Hrádek nad Nisou. To the capitol of Czech republic, Prague, you will need only 1 hour for your drive.
Hotel has been built in the style of 17th century - in a form of so called Valdstejn's houses from the period of the 30-years war during the goverment of Duke Albrecht from Valdstejn and although we offer to our guests the services of a high standard, we would like to keepthis personality and comfortable style.
